Definition:
The conjunction of God’s sovereign self-disclosure, action, and examination with humanity’s covenantal posture, obedience, and accountability. Structurally, this pairing is strongly asymmetrical: divine initiative and human response.
Three Diagnostic Criteria
- Is one side centered on what God has done, spoken, or revealed (act/reveal)?
- Is the other side centered on how humans must stand, obey, fear, and give account (posture/accountability)?
- Does this tension shape a lived coram Deo life rather than an abstract theological debate?
Revelation & Response Tension Pairs:
- Objective Truth ↔ Subjective Faith
- Promise ↔ Faith
- Calling ↔ Following
- Gift ↔ Inheritance
- Justification ↔ Perseverance
- Assurance ↔ Warning
- Conviction ↔ Final Judgment
