Definition:

The simultaneous affirmation of the “already” and “not yet” dimensions of salvation within redemptive history. The same salvific reality exists in present and consummate forms.

Three Diagnostic Criteria

  1. Do the two sides differ primarily in timing, stage, or mode of realization rather than in value?
  2. Does Scripture affirm present grace as real while directing believers toward future consummation?
  3. Would removing the “not yet” lead to triumphalism, and removing the “already” lead to discouragement and paralysis?

Two-Tense Eschatology Tension Pairs:

  1. Already ↔ Not Yet
  2. New Creation ↔ Groaning Creation
  3. Eternal Life ↔ Resurrection Hope
  4. Kingdom Present ↔ Kingdom Future
