One of the core principles of Biblical Tension Theology is this: there is only one ultimate Source of life—God Himself. All things come from Him, depend on Him, and return to Him for His glory. This is not merely one doctrine among many; it is a foundational grammar for understanding creation, redemption, sanctification, discipleship, ministry, and the church.
The apostle Paul gives one of the clearest summaries of this truth:
“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36)
This verse provides the biblical structure of reality: from Him, through Him, and to Him. God is the origin, sustainer, and goal of all things. Nothing has ultimate life in itself. Nothing explains itself apart from God. Nothing exists independently of God. All true life flows from God, is sustained by God, and must return to God in worship and glory.
In Biblical Tension Theology, this principle may be called One Source. It means that God alone is the ultimate source of life, truth, goodness, love, holiness, wisdom, salvation, fruitfulness, and glory. Human beings truly live, respond, obey, love, serve, and bear fruit—but they are never the ultimate source. They are recipients, participants, stewards, and witnesses. God alone remains the Source.
This distinction is essential. When the distinction between source and participation collapses, theology becomes distorted. If man is treated as the source, the result is pride, moralism, self-salvation, self-glory, and human-centered ministry. If human participation is denied, the result is passivity, fatalism, and spiritual irresponsibility. Biblical Tension Theology seeks to preserve both truths: God is the only ultimate Source, and human beings truly participate in the life God gives.
